In our lives we are meant to THRIVE!🌱🌿🌳
Maya Angelou understood this lesson. She was an American author, actress, screenwriter, dancer, poet, and civil rights activist. Angelou's 1969 memoir "I know why the caged bird sings" described her childhood and young adult years (a time where she faced racial prejudice, discrimination, and sexual assault). Her memoir later became the first nonfiction bestseller by an African American woman. She would later go on to write many literary works describing different stages of her life.
Something we can all learn from Maya Angelou is that she did not only survive the difficult situations in her life (things in her younger years that temporarily made her into a virtual mute) but grew from them, and transformed these experiences into works of art. She used her life experiences, put pen to paper, and used her gift of writing to thrive.
In our own lives, many situations around us can dampen the fire within us. The pressure can be so great, it can feel as if the whole world is on our shoulders. Some of us might be in survival mode and struggling to go through the motions of life.
Today, this is to encourage you that in this life you are not destined to only survive but that you can THRIVE. Look life in the eye, follow your passions, have compassion towards yourself and others, laugh a whole lot, and do it all in a way that's truly you.
Because as Maya Angelou once said, Making a living is not the same thing as making a life."
