Consistent Passion

It can be fun to switch through different tasks and ideas but in the end they won’t go very far

The trick is Consistency.

If you are anything like me, I like to think I am a hard working and diligent person. Everything that I do, I try to do with as much passion as I can. But often with some ideas, I work on them for a while but later I lose interest and quit. My parents were first to see this quality and as such when I first started band in middle school, my parents rented my clarinet in fear I would quit the next year (in fact I did band all through middle school to the end of college).

It can be fun to switch through different tasks and ideas but in the end they won’t go very far. To achieve our dreams, there has to be passion- not just an intense, do everything at once passion but a steady consistent desire to see your dream come true. Without this desire, when you hit your first bump in the road or when someone says you can’t do it, you’ll find yourself more likely to quit and switch to something else. Anyone who has ever done anything great in the world consistently held their dream in view until they achieved it.

Although I am still trying to master this skill myself, anyone who knows me knows about my dream and deep desire to live and work in China. Those around me knew my love for the Chinese people, culture, and history. Everything I've done and still do revolves around living and staying in China. My family is so convinced of my passion for China that they continually assert that I'm going to end of marrying a Chinese person because i'm so obsessed with this dream. But even as I live out my dream now as I write this post, I've definitely experienced quite a few hard trials since I've gotten here. But nothing can shake the deep love I have for China.

So as such, you can’t just like your dream or even just love it right now. The trick is consistency. You have to stay in love. Eat, breathe, sleep, and desire your dream so deeply that you’ll be willing to do anything in order to see your dream be achieved.
